It’s a compound exercise because it also works out your shoulders, your back, and arms. You also use your legs to stabilize yourself. Warm up good and get your blood flowing before lifting heavy to prevent injuries since there’s different muscle groups involved. I also do the barbell on some days but I’m showing you guys dumbbell workouts and typical machines most gyms will have. You will have to balance the dumbbell more than barbell which will build more on your wrist/ forearms. It will help you lift the bar easier. Also you wont need a spotter as you would need for the barbell to use heavier weights. Anyways its 100 degrees in this gym and there’s no air conditioning so it’s hard to lift here. lol Couple things to remember: Flat dumbbell press – Start off light since it’s the beginning of the workout and increase gradually. -Keep your feet on the ground and spread out to maintain balance. – Place the dumb bell closer to your body so when you roll back you’re ready to push the weight upright. -Try to go low as you can – If you want to target more on your chest; don’t fully extend your bench as it will work out more on your triceps. This will also help if you’re going heavier and if your muscles give out you can always drop the dumbbell to the side.
